Donating: A Smart Way to Help Hurricane Sandy Victims

October 31, 2012 — Leave a comment

Hurricane Sandy has left millions on the east coast displaced and without power.  If you are in a position to contribute, consider donating to IRS tax-emempt charitable organizations such as the American Red Cross, which will help bring relief to the hundreds of shelters the Red Cross is managing across 9 states in response to Hurricane Sandy.  Your donation can be claimed as an itemized deduction to the extent permitted by law, so long as you save your receipt (even if you donate by phone, be sure to keep an electronic copy).  The American Red Cross is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; the Red Cross’ tax identification number is 53-0196605.
